After floods ruined the playing field in their Somerset, NJ stadium, Hartford offered to host the Somerset Patriots, an ffilate of the New York Yankees, Tuesday, September 7th through Thursday, September 9th.
All three games will be played at 6:05 p.m. and tickets are on sale now. This will be the first time the Yankees affiliate has visited Hartford since the opening homestand in May.
“We are happy to help the New York Yankees and Somerset Patriots by moving the games to Dunkin’ Donuts Park in Hartford,” Yard Goats President Tim Restall said. “We are thinking about all the folks that have been impacted by Hurricane Ida and look forward to welcoming in our new guests for an additional three games next week.”
The Hartford Yard Goats are home this wweekend at Dunkin’ Donuts Park.
The stadium, known as Bridgewater Township stadium and its two parking lots were left submerged by Wednesdays rains. Even the players’ in-season living quarters — extended-stay hotels and apartments — were flooded, a news report suggested as New Jersey residents suffered catastrophic damages from the deadly flooding.
“This whole area has been in some way affected with flooding, so I’m sure our players are going to be dealing with some of the effects,” Marc Russinoff, Patriots VP of communications and media relations, told NJ Advance Media.
The ballpark flooding left the team’s final six home games in jeopardy. Water was up to the top of the dugout and into the stands on Thursday preventing team employees from getting into the ballpark as roads were closed.
Somerset is in first place in its division with the team’s final six regular-season games in Akron. The Patriots are optimistic that they’ll be able to get their ballpark ready as they did in September 1999 after Hurricane Floyd and in August 2011 after Hurricane Irene. Over two dozen New Jersey residents lost their lives due to floodwaters arising from the remnants of Hurricane Ida as it swept northward from Louisiana this week.
