On Sunday, Oct. 30, starting at noon, kids and their families are invited to don their Halloween costumes and travel by car down the abandoned airstrip in the center of East Hartford for ‘Trunk or Treat’ hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and the town Parks & Recreation department.
Along the old runway you will see some spooky sights – perhaps the spirits of Charles “Lucky Lindy” Lindbergh or Ameila Earhart, each of whom visited the East Hartford plant which made the engines they flew to fame – as candy and treats are deposited into the trunk of your family vehicle. The only thing you need to do is register your name in advance for this free Trunk or Treat Drive-Thru.
Trunk or Treat will be held rain or shine, and ends at 3 p.m.
It is open to the first 500 pre-registered East Hartford families. Registration begins Oct. 12 at www.ehparks.org and ends Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. If your family has not already registered with East Hartford Parks & Rec you will need to set up a family account first.
Participating vehicles should arrive with a completely clear and open trunk. Place a basket or bowl in the trunk for candy. Town businesses and organizations will line the runway, many in costume, passing out candy or goodies. Stay in your vehicle the entire time.
FMI visit www.easthartfordct.gov. It is not too late for local businesses or other organizations to sponsor a trunk, and they are encouraged to sign up.
