Capping an outstanding week with her best scoring performance of her career, East Hartford’s Desiree Elmore, a senior forward on the Seton Hall Pirates women’s basketball team was named BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Elmore’s team now heads into the Big East Championships as the number three seed at Mohegan Sun Casino this weekend. This was Elmore’s first Player of the Week honor this year after being named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll three times.
Elmore was dominant for Seton Hall in three road victories winding up the regular season. She led the Pirates with 19.7 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. Wednesday at Xavier, Elmore had a strong all-around game, going for eight points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals. At Villanova Saturday, she erupted for a double-double with game-highs of 21 points and 16 rebounds.
Finally, Monday, Elmore scored a career-high 30 points, on an efficient 11-for-16 shooting, to go with nine rebounds and three blocks.
During the impressive effort, she became the 23rd player in program history to record 1,000 career points in a Pirate uniform.
UConn’s Aaliyah Edwards was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
Members of the Weekly Honor Roll include Butler’s Upe Atosu, DePaul’s Lexi Held, Marquette’s Camryn Taylor, Villanova’s Maddy Siegrist and Xavier’s A’riana Gray.
Seton Hall will return to game action this Saturday, March 6 when it begins play at the 2021 BIG EAST Tournament. The Pirates will face either No. 6 Creighton or No. 11 Georgetown in the quarterfinals after receiving a first-round bye. Tip-off is at 9 p.m.
